ISLAMABAD – In an apparent failure to take over the control of the Ministry of Ports and Shipping in wake of the resignation tendered by MQM’s Babar Khan Ghauri, the PPP’s Karachi-based leader and Minister of State for Ports and Shipping Nabeel Gabol on Wednesday tendered his resignation to the prime minister for being a “powerless” minister.
Since Ghauri had tendered resignation as per his party policy around three weeks back, Gabol wanted to completely takeover the affairs of the ministry, a source confided to Pakistan Today.
“But Gabol was stunned to note that there was no change in the ministry’s affairs. So he was denied his right to exercise the powers of the minister. In protest to the resistance, Gabol decided to step down as he did not want to remain a ceremonial minister,” the source added.
In his two-line letter sent to the prime minister, Gabol said was stepping down as minister of state “due to personal reasons”. “He also thanked the prime minister for his support and said it was a wonderful experience working under his leadership,” the source said. However, Gabol told reporters that he was a powerless minister and was unable to resolve the issues of the people of his constituency.
Gabol went on to say that he would not keep the ministerial slot even if the prime minister did not accept his resignation.
