Free diagnostic and treatment facilities at Ganga Ram Hospital

LAHORE – According to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s policy, free diagnostic and treatment facilities are being provided to patients coming to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and administration of the hospital has taken various measures for creating patient-friendly atmosphere, Pakistan Today has learnt. The number of patients coming to the hospital has increased manifold and during last year, 0.4 million patients visited the OPD while 0.3 million patients were provided treatment in the emergency department.
According to details given by the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital administration, 60,603 patients were admitted in the hospital whereas 34,920 children were treated in the pediatrics emergency. Similarly, 36,333 operations were conducted and 85,433 X-rays, 49,488 ultrasounds, 3,358 CT scans, 739 MRIs, 1,349 colour doplers, 496 mammography and 1.5 million different laboratory tests were conducted during 2010.
The hospital administration provided free dialysis facility to 8,546 kidney patients whereas 57,059 ECGs were also conducted. Elaborating the hospital’s performance, Medical Superintendent Dr Ijaz Sheikh said that according to the government policy, besides providing free of cost diagnostic and treatment facilities, health education is also being given to patients for promoting awareness regarding prevention of diseases. He said that special instructions have been issued to doctors and paramedical staff to deal with patents in a polite and sympathetic manner, as attitude of doctors and nurses plays a vital role in early recovery of patients.
