Bulgaria and Pakistan endorse Afghan-led reconciliation

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Bulgaria on Wednesday agreed they would support all reconciliation efforts to restore peace in the war-shattered Afghanistan emphasising the process must be led by Afghans themselves.
Visiting Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nickolay Evtimov Mladenov held extensive talks here at the foreign office with his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mahmood Qureshi on different issues of mutual interests. Bulgarian Foreign Minister also called on the Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
The prime minister told the visiting dignitary that Pakistan regarded Bulgaria, a member of the European Union, as an important friendly country and was keen to further strengthen bilateral relations in multi-faceted fields.
Addressing a joint press conference later, Nickolay Evtimov Mladenov and Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that their countries were supportive of reconciliation process in Afghanistan to bring normalcy back to the war-torn country. However, they said that the reconciliation process should be led by Afghans themselves.
They said Pakistan and Bulgaria had decided to expand bilateral relations in various fields including defense, economy, trade and culture.
