World Pashto Congress to hold literary conference

PESHAWAR – The World Pashto Congress is set to hold a 3-day the Pashto Conference in April this year to highlight the need to revive the Pashto language script. The event is aimed at looking into the downfall of Pakhtuns’ culture and Pashto literature over the years.
Those attending the session would also analyse the implications of militancy, the government’s apathy which some Pashto men of letters believe contributed to the decadence of rich culture and literary tradition of Pakhtuns.
Talking to Pakistan Today at Pashto Department of Peshawar University, intellectual and poet Shahabudin said the conference would promote budding talented Pashto writers and poets. He said efforts were also under way to compile works of the masters of Pashto literature.
He said Pashto scholars from all over the country and from Afghanistan would arrive at the conference. All the challenges and impediments faced by the Pashto culture would be highlighted, he said.
He recalled the similar events had been held in the past; first time in 1987 and then in 2000. But since then the unabated militancy was wreaking havoc with the Pashto culture and literature.
