KARACHI – The US Consulate General in Karachi on Tuesday shifted to a new building located on the Mai Kolachi Bypass.
According to a statement, the new consulate includes an American Centre designed to increase interaction between Americans and Pakistanis and will hold educational and cultural programmes.
The huge building constructed with modern technology has recently been completed. “The new consulate clearly reflects the enduring relationship between America and Pakistan and is a commitment by the American people and the government to stand with Pakistan in the long term,” it stated.
Enthusiastic about moving to the new facility, US Consul General William Martin stated, “This is a historic and important move. I am looking forward to showing the people of Sindh and Balochistan our new consulate complex. Our relocation enables us to continue building a strong and mutually beneficial relationship between the American people and Pakistanis.”
In 2005, the US government had purchased 20 acres land at the Mai Kolachi road from the Karachi Port Trust. The groundbreaking took place in May 2008 and after nearly two years the construction of the new facility was completed.
