PAC calls record of Rs 30 million spent by MI

ISLAMABAD – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday directed the Finance Ministry to present the record of Rs 30 million spent by the Military Intelligence in Dera Bugti for transformers’ installation.
According to the Auditor General of Pakistan’s Audit Report 2008-09, the Finance Division gave Water and Power Development Authority’s Rs 30 million to the Military Intelligence as a reimbursement of the amount already spent on the installation of transformers and provision of electricity to agriculturist in Dera Bugti Balochistan.
“It is WAPDA’s prerogative to provide electricity and payment to the other government agency for this purpose was not justified. Moreover, no accounts of the expenditure reimbursed were available with the Finance Division”, the report said.
It further said that the Finance Division had informed Auditor General of Pakistan that the division had released Rs 30 million to MI Directorate on the prime minister’s directives in 2007 for reimbursement. “Finance Division replied on May, 26, 2010 to audit officials that the division had requested various time to MI Directorate to provide detail account of Rs 30 million’s expenditures but no response received so far,” the report said. The PAC directed the finance secretary to get complete record of Rs 30 million expended by MI and submitted it to the Auditor General of Pakistan for audit.
