LAHORE – As many as 18 commandos of the Elite Police Force deputed for the security of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry on Tuesday refused to perform their duty, informing the security in-charge that they could not be on duty for 24 hours with the chief justice, at court and at his home.
Following the protest, the Elite Police Force sent a new batch of 18 commandos to provide security to the LHC chief justice.
The protesting officials said the stringent duty hours left them with no time for rest, adding that they did not even get proper breaks for having lunch and dinner.
They said their basic duty was of a few hours, which included providing security cover to the LHC chief justice on way to court in the morning and escorting him back to his home.
“We bring the chief justice to the court in the morning and later we are unfairly asked to keep standing for surveillance for whole day at the court. Then in the evening, we take the CJ home and stay there for the whole night. Thus, we perform round-the-clock duty which is unfair, inhuman and unjust,” the commandos said.
The defiance of elite commandos spread a panic inside the court premises, however, the situation calmed down with the arrival of the fresh batch of security personnel.
