37 from Sindh to participate in Pakistan Knowledge Festival

KARACHI – Thirty seven scholars, academicians and students would leave for Islamabad today (Wednesday) to participate in the Pakistan Knowledge Festival that is being held from January 21 to 28.
“This festival is the first of its kind in the country and it is being organised by the Federal Education Ministry in Islamabad with the objective to provide information to public at large on the works and services rendered by the federal educational institutions in all provinces of the country,” Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, principal of the Sindh Madressatul Islam College (SMIC) and coordinator for the festival in Sindh said on Tuesday.
He said that all 11 federal educational institutions working in Sindh would participate in the festival and would set up stalls to highlight their services and achievements. “The stalls of the institutions from Sindh would be in the form of a cluster depicting the culture of Sindh,” he added.
Giving details about the participating institutions of Sindh, Dr Shaikh said that SMIC would set up a stall at the festival and exhibit 16 rare historic pictures of the Sindh Madressatul Islam including the visits of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Benazir Bhutto to the institution.
He said that a presentation titled “The story of the Quaid” would also be presented on the occasion, in which the role and services of the Quaid-e-Azam as well as the degree programme in media sciences started by the SMIC from January 2011 would be highlighted.
Similarly, the Centre of Excellence on Arts and Design, Jamshoro would highlight the making of ajrak, relhi and Sindhi topi and other such cultural aspects of the province’s culture.
The Area Study Centre for far Eastern Countries and South East Asia would highlight the important achievements in the relationship between Pakistan and the countries of these regions.
The Urdu Dictionary Board would arrange ghazal programmes as well as pronunciation competitions of the Urdu language. The institute of Marine Biology, University of Karachi shall highlight issues such as biodiversity.
Dr Shaikh said that the faculty and students of federal institutions have been encouraged to fully participate in the festival and present their multimedia presentations, deliver lectures and show documentaries relating to the areas of their specialisation in the event.
