Renewable energy only solution to climate change, says Zardari

ABU DHABI – President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the search for alternative and renewable energy resources to save the world from calamitous weather changes.
Addressing the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2011 in Abu Dhabi on Monday, the president said that not only Pakistan but the entire world was facing serious energy crises.
He called for utilization of green energy resources to avoid environmental degradation in future.
He said a shift to clean energy is desperately needed to avert devastating rains, floods and other natural disasters in the world. He lauded the organisers for holding the energy summit.
“Pakistan with its huge population is desperate to get rid of present energy crises but we need support of the international community”, Zardari noted. He said Pakistan wants to exploit all its resources for industrialisation but the energy shortage is hindering the process.
“The energy is synonymous with civilisation. It is the lifeline for economic growth and development. The continuing volatility of fuel prices and conventional energy’s deep carbon foot print coupled with close nexus between water, energy, and food security has brought energy access and energy security issues into even sharper focus”, he added.
The imperative of economic growth and development for developing economies like Pakistan lends further urgency to the need to find energy solutions that are feasible, sustainable and cost-effective, president maintained.
