NA body rejects Regional Languages Bill 2008

ISLAMABAD – National Assembly Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Monday unanimously rejected Constitutional Amendment Bill 2008 that sought the national language status for regional languages. Member National Assembly Begum Nasim Akhtar chaired the committee meeting at the Parliament House.
The Constitutional Amendment Bill 2008 (Article 251) to give regional languages status of National language moved by MNA Marvi Memon was unanimously rejected by the committee. For the Pakistan Penal Code Amendment Bill 2008, moved by Dr Donya Aziz, the committee constituted a sub-committee to review the various aspects of the bill and present it before the committee in three weeks.
The committee also discussed The Family Courts Amendment Bill 2008, the Constitution Amendment Bill 2008, the Code of Civil Procedure Amendment Bill 2008 (Section 9), the Public Complaints Speedy Redress of Grievance Bill 2008, the Pakistan Penal Code Amendment Bill 2008 (Section 284A) and the Constitution Amendment Bill 2009 (Article 70, 71, 135, 141).
