LAHORE – A Lahore High Court (LHC) election tribunal on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syeda Abida Hussain seeking disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. Abida had lost the 2008 general elections from NA-88 Jhang-III against Faisal. The tribunal consisting of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed observed that the petitioner could not prove her case against the MNA.
Abida had submitted that Hayat did not qualify to be an MNA on ground that he did not fulfill requirements of articles 62 and 63 of the constitution, which requires every parliamentarian to be honest. The petitioner accused the MNA of rigging the elections and being a bank defaulter due to which he could not contest elections. The PPP leader had requested the court to disqualify the respondent, as he had violated election laws and created a difficult situation in the constituency on the polling day.
