ATC remands DSP Ranjha’s alleged killer

Karachi – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday remanded the alleged assassin of DSP Nawaz Ranjha into judicial custody.
ATC Administrative Judge Sajjad Ali Shah sent the suspect identified as Shakirullah to the Karachi Central Prison for a week.
According to the prosecution, Shakirullah was allegedly involved in the murder of two police officials DSP Ranjha and Inspector Nasirul Hassan.
Police had arrested the suspect from the Karachi airport when he was about to leave the country.
‘Kidnapper’ remanded: Shah also remanded former ASI Agha Manzoor Hussain for one week to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell police.
According to the prosecution, Hussain with his accomplices had kidnapped Dr Shiyam Sundar and demanded Rs 5 million as ransom for his release. He released Sundar after receiving an amount of Rs 2,400,000.
Afaq’s hearing adjourned: A Sindh High Court (SHC) division bench comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Imam Bux Baloch adjourned the hearing of the constitution petition regarding details of cases registered against MQM-Haqiqi chief Afaq Ahmed.
The proceeding was adjourned due to the absence of Ahmed’s counsel.
Separately, an SHC bench headed by Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany issued notices to the Sindh home secretary, the IG prisons and the Karachi Central Prison superintendent in the petition filed against alleged torture of an inmate.
Petitioner Asif had submitted that jail officials named Aslam Arain, Hassan Saheto and others had brutally tortured his confined son Shafi at the Karachi Central Prison.
