LAHORE – The Punjab Health Department on Monday launched a 12-day “Preventive campaign against measles” by administering injections to children at the Government Munshi Hospital, Lahore. The campaign would be conducted in 11 different districts of the province during which medical teams would administer injections to children between 6 months to 5 years of age and also provide polio drops to them.
The campaign would continue until January 29.
Giving details, Punjab Health Director General (DG) Dr Aslam Chaudhry informed journalists that the health department has constituted 8,818 mobile teams consisting of 17,636 health officials. The teams would visit every village, town and locality of the concerned district and reach the community centre or the dera of the village ‘numberdar’ as well.
Announcement regarding their arrival in the locality would be made from nearby mosques. Chaudhry disclosed that measles is at verge of elimination and the special campaign had been launched to achieve the target. He informed journalist that during this 12-day campaign, Lahore, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jhang, Multan, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Sialkot would be covered. He said that rest of districts would be included in next phase of the campaign.
