Katy Perry will cross over to films for the first time in 2011, when she lends her voice to the big screen version of ‘The Smurfs.’ This could be the first step for Perry in her quest to be a triple threat, as she already proved she could be funny on television through a guest spot on ‘The Simpsons’ as well as a stint as a judge on ‘American Idol’. Up till now she has only played herself, and she will also have a cameo in the Christmas 2011 release of ‘The Muppets.’ During 2010, Perry could be seen just about everywhere, debuting her newest album ‘Teenage Dream’ at No. 1 in the box office, and even finding happiness when she married Russell Brand.
Perry even found herself nominated for five 2011 People’s Choice awards, giving her the chance to win favorite female artist, favorite song, and even the favorite music video from fans across the country. Could it be possible that 2011 will be an even better year for Perry? Her California Dreams Tour looks to be one of the biggest of the year, and that will lead up to her voice acting debut in ‘The Smurfs.’
The film is set to receive a wide release on Friday, August 3rd, and she will voice one of the main roles of the film. It may just be her voice, but Perry will be Smurfette, the extremely recognizable female component of the blue cartoon characters. Lending her voice will get her feet wet in the industry, and hopefully that leads to more roles or parts in her future.
