KARACHI – A meeting reviewed arrangements for the 267th Urs of the great saint, poet and philosopher, Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, on Sunday.
On the occasion, Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo said that a ‘cultural village’ would be set up where handicrafts of various artists would be displayed, a 24-hour Sufi mehfil would be arranged and book stalls would also be set up to promote and project various aspects of the Sindhi culture.
“Promotional steps would be taken to attract people to the village and security has also been enhanced for the event,” she said.
Palijo said that last year, the “Ganj” of Shah Jo Risalo was presented to the Sindh Assembly speaker for reference and research and kept in the assembly’s library.
This year, five books including “Ganj”, “Mirror of Shah Latif” and “Thoughts of Shah Latif” would be presented to the chief minister, the Sindh Assembly speaker and all 168 members of the assembly today (Monday).
Palijo said that the Culture Department would install a monument of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai at Sea View in Karachi.
The minister said that she had recently approached Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to request frequent visa facility for poets, writers and intellectuals from India and other South Asian countries so that they could attend the Urs as well as other events in the province.
On the occasion, Secretary Alamuddin Bullo informed the minister about the security arrangements made for the Urs.
