The curious case of ‘unidentified men’

KARACHI – Attention sci-fi lovers, paranormal enthusiasts and mystery buffs of the world! Forget Star Wars, stop wasting time watching those The X-Files repeats and no, those ghost hunting reality shows are never going to prove that ghosts actually exist.
Karachi is where all the action is. This is the real deal… some serious sci-fi or supernatural stuff is going on here.
The city is being terrorised by forces far beyond our understanding. Every day, some strange, diabolical creatures mercilessly slay people in different areas of the city. Amazingly, none of them has ever been captured and neither have they been identified yet. Therefore, the term “unidentified men” has been coined for them and handiwork is called “targeted killings”. If you regularly follow news about Karachi, chances are a day wouldn’t pass when you don’t come across stories like “X, Y and Z were gunned down by unidentified men in another wave of targeted killings in Karachi”.
Apparently, these “unidentified men” are no mere mortals and they possess some kind of superhuman abilities. They can become invisible, probably by camouflaging themselves into the background (similar to what that alien in the Hollywood sci-fi action thriller ‘Predator’ could do), stalk their target on the bustling streets of the city with the utmost of ease, achieve their mission and escape in a manner, which the great Houdini wouldn’t have been able to pull of.
The fact that the city is crawling with policemen and Rangers makes no difference to them. Somehow, our law enforcers never seem to detect these strange individuals, who audaciously carry their 9mms while riding their motorcycles.
They also have some kind of a hideout equipped with state-of-the-art technology like Batman’s ‘Batcave’ or access to a portal to some other dimension. Or better yet, they have a supernatural ability to shape-shift… make themselves appear of they are someone else. That explains why the law enforcers are never able to figure out where they are hiding.
Doesn’t matter if it’s in the dark of night or in broad daylight, the unidentified men are a force unstoppable. The authorities are baffled. How can our poor old law enforcers, who are ordinary humans like the rest of us, tackle these extraordinary beings? They are more maniacal than ‘The Joker’ and the nightmare king ‘Freddy Krueger’ is not even in their league.
Where did they come from? How did they end up in the city? If you ask our Interior Minister Rehman Malik, he would like us to believe that they are from outer space, but he probably assumes that nobody would fall for that. He would rather use a term like “hidden forces” or “unseen hands” to leave us guessing what that actually means.
