Seven more killed in Karachi unrest

KARACHI – Violence in Karachi intensified after a former naib nazim of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was targeted by unidentified men in Farid Colony on Saturday.
The death toll has reached 29 in 48 hours after seven more people were gunned down in several parts of the metropolis, whereas the number of injured people reached 43 after 13 more were targeted. Badshah Khan, 40, was gravely wounded when three unidentified men opened fire on him as he left his house in Sector 10 of Orangi Town for work. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, and his body was handed over to his heirs after post-mortem. The victim, a senior MQM activist, was also the former naib nazim of SITE Town.
Ziarat Gul Khan, 30, was seriously wounded by two men on a motorcycle when they opened fire on Khan at Noorani Hotel in Sector L-1 of Surjani Town. Ajmal, 36, was wounded by firing of unidentified men in Khokhrapar when he was standing outside his house.
A man was gunned down and five people, including a woman, injured when unidentified men in a car opened fire in Marwari Mohalla, Ranchore Lines. Saeed, 30, was killed, whereas Aisha, Shahid, Nasir, Liaquat and Govind were wounded.
Three injured people and bodies of two others were brought from Urdu Chowk to ASH where two of the wounded were identified as Nafees Nabi Bakhsh and Farhan Fakhar Khan.
Mominabad SHO Inayatullah Marwat said that six men on three motorcycles were involved in the incident and the entire area was resonating with sounds of gunshots.
Sources said that there were more bodies and injured at Urdu Chowk; however, ambulances and rescue workers were finding it difficult to reach the victims and survivors due to intense firing in the area.
