ISLAMABAD – The committees formed by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif to implement the PML-N’s reforms agenda will have their first formal meeting in the
next few days.
In response to the PML-N’s four-member committee, Gilani had also formed a committee last Thursday comprising federal ministers Babar Awan, Naveed Qamar, Pervez Ashraf, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and Raza Rabbani which in collaboration with the PML-N team would evolve a strategy for the implementation of Nawaz’s proposed
reforms agenda.
In the first meeting between the two committees, the PML-N leaders would suggest ways the government could implement the reforms agenda within 45 days. They would suggest the government how to formulate people-friendly gas and electricity and petrol pricing mechanisms and how to do away with the gas and electricity load shedding.
The PML-N team would also present a list of corrupt government officials who should be sacked. It would demand the government implement SC verdict on the NRO, complete the composition of the ECP and reduce the size of the cabinet. Both sides will also consider restructuring public
sector organisations.
The controversies between the two parties over new accountability bill would also be resolved in the meeting. The PML-N committee would propose a formula for the recovery of all loans written off on political basis and also apprise the ministers on how the government could cut its expenses
by 30 percent
The prime minister has directed its ministerial committee to contact all parliamentary parties and also include their suggestions regarding the reforms. The committee will also meet parliamentary leaders of the PML-Q, the JUI-F, the MQM and the ANP for their input in this regard.
