LAHORE – Pakistan’s female tennis players will participate in the Federation Cup after almost a decade and the camp training of players started here at the Bagh-e-Jinnah courts under the supervision of former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik. Pakistan’s top female tennis player Ushna Suhail, currently nursing an ankle injury, will undergo fitness test on January 21 and as long as she does not gain the required fitness level, she would be kept as a reserve.
“Sara Mahboob, Sara Mansoor and Saba Aziz are the other three members of the team while former Fed Cupper and national champion Nosheen Ehtesham is the non-playing captain,” Malik added.
The last time Pakistan participated in the Fed Cup was when Nosheen represented the country in the Fed Cup and her son Aisamul Haq Qureshi represented the country created history in the Davis Cup. They became the first mother and son to represent a country in the Fed Cup and Davis Cup at the same time.
Malik said that the federation had sent six players and the remaining two Iman
Qureshi and Anusha were also training with their seniors to prepare for the Burma Youth Cup. He said that the two-week camp with two sessions – morning and evening – will go on till January 31 and after that, the team will leave for Thailand in the first week of the coming month.
