KARACHI – Two men, who allegedly tried to assassinate ANP’s deputy general secretary Bashir Jan, were remanded into police custody on Saturday.
Judicial Magistrate East Zabiha Khattak remanded the two alleged accused identified as Zeeshan and Shahnawaz until January 25.
According to the prosecution, the police had arrested the two suspects in an injured condition from the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Friday and they had confessed before the police about their involvement in the attack on ANP leader on the night of January 13.
Aziz Bhatti police presented Zeeshan before the magistrate, while the other booked person was said to be under treatment at the JPMC.
The investigation officer requested the court to grant the remand of the suspects for 15 days to further interrogate them. The police also claimed that the alleged accused have confessed killing eight persons in Orangi Town.
Sources in law enforcement agencies told Pakistan Today that four suspects Zeeshan, son of Ghous , Shahnawaz, son of Ateeq, Javed, son of Safeer Ahmed and Shoaib, son of Aslam were arrested from the Sindh Government Qatar Hospital (SGQH) on the night of the incident when were wounded by the firing of Jan’s bodyguards.
However, the police produced only one of arrested men in the court and said that the other suspect was in the hospital. They did not mention the two other arrested suspects.
“Jan was attacked by four men riding two motorcycles near the Hassan Square flyover. Although Jan and his guard Arshad were wounded in the attack, the assailants were also injured when Arshad retaliated,” the sources explained.
The attackers were seemingly followed by their associates, who rushed them to the SGQH.
Intelligence agencies, however, found out that Jan’s assailants have been taken to the SGQH and a Rangers contingent was dispatched to the hospital to take the four men into custody but they were confronted by workers of a political party.
Despite the altercation, the Rangers personnel managed to shift the four from the SGQH to the JPMC.
