SICAS Model United Nations reaches its peak

Lahore – SICAS Model United Nations (SMUN) started in the SICAS School Gulberg from Friday, with the association of Pepsi and Pakistan Today. Various educational institutes including Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore School of Economics (LSE), Lahore Grammar School (LGS), Aitchison College, Beaconhouse School System, University College Lahore, City School, ICAS Girls and Salamat Girls campuses.
According to the participants nail biting contests are expected in the event. “Forming a Standing Army of the UN for Peacekeeping and its Affectivity” and “The NPT as a Means of Maintaining International Security” are the committee topics for Disarmament and International Security (DISEC). “The Israel-Palestine Question” and “The Situation in Somalia” are the topics for United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Committee. United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) committee would discuss about “Providing Access to Pharmaceutical Drugs” and “Human Rights in War-struck Areas.”
Other issues include “US declares war on Venezuela on basis of nuclear weapon development and trafficking”, “The role of international media in fuelling conflicts”, “Restructuring the traditional class systems- Ensuring internal peace and sustainable development” and “Religious intolerance- Introduction of different religious perspectives in all schools.”
The event is scheduled from January 14 to 17 and will include eight committee sessions, debates and four social events. Debating includes the topics about the global issues at the simulation, which will help in viewing the world from a different eye. The event also includes social events including Global Village, Talent Night, a concert and a formal dinner. Global Village exhibited the diversity and multiplicity of cultures.
The aim behind the event was to experience a taste of cultures worldwide. Each delegation was required to set up a display of the essential features of its country that distinguish it from the world. These features included clothing, festivals, traditions, music, art and food. Winner of the Global Village award will be announced on Monday.
Talent Night took place yesterday where singing, dancing and acting was tested. According to the SMUN officials, Talent Night provided a golden opportunity for all the candidates to come together and appreciate and applaud each other while indulging in artistic stimulation. The concert will be held today (Sunday), whereas closing ceremony and annual dinner is scheduled for Monday.
