LAHORE – Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has established a datacenter in Lahore, which is the first certified data storage bank installed by an international body, EPI, that would provide advanced products and services backed by engineering and technical support for the government and enterprise markets in Pakistan.
Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the PTCL Data Centre in Wafaqi Colony here on Friday. Shahbaz Sharif, while speaking on the occasion, appreciated PTCL’s efforts in improving service standards, especially after privatisation. He urged PTCL President Walid Arshad to further improve telecommunication services and positively impact on economic activity.
He said that the provincial government had provided internet access to over 4,000 schools across Punjab, particularly in the far-flung areas, which previously lacked such facilities. Thousands of students were benefiting from the internet facility in their schools, he added. He also emphasised that the management of PTCL must play its role in meeting its corporate social responsibility.
Addressing the gathering, PTCL President Walid Arshad highlighted the capabilities of the datacenter. He stated that the datacenter services were an ideal choice for companies who needed flexibility to house their primary, disaster recovery and/or business continuity sites and choose from a variety of cost reducing services as per their business demands.
He pointed out that the PTCL had already established a datacenter in Karachi. These datacenters were part of the overall PTCL managed services approach, which presented corporate customers with not only reduced costs, but also improvement in the availability, performance, resilience and security of an organisation’s ICT infrastructure, he added.
Lauding the experts’ capability, Walid Arshad stated that the PTCL had achieved international recognition as PTCL experts were facilitating Sri Lanka in setting up their own information storage centre. He said when broadband was introduced in Pakistan, it was not expected to be successful but now Singapore had included Pakistan in the world broadband map.
He underlined that access to information was basic right of every citizen and PTCL took it upon itself to provide information to the public without exclusion or disruption. Arshad said the PTCL datacenter solution would provide customers managed and hosted cloud based services that consist of computing as a service, processing as a service, storage as a service, software as a service, application hosting, infrastructure hosting, caging, co-location, disaster recovery as a service, backup solutions, hosted business solutions, unified communications and telepresence switching.
