LAHORE – A constitutional petition has been moved before the Lahore High Court to seek judicial inquiry through a Supreme Court judge, into the murder of the parents of Justice Javed Iqbal of the Apex Court which took place at their Cavalry Ground residence on January 11.
The petitioner, advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique has moved the petition in the public interest enlisting interior ministry of federal and the provincial government, Federal Investigating Agency, and the Police as party.
The petitioner contends that in order of reach the real motive behind mysterious killing of the couple, namely Abdul Hameed, former DIG, Quetta, and Zarina Hameed, a judicial commission consisting of a Supreme Court judge may be constituted. He said he made a request for the same to federal and provincial authorities but both failed to consider the same. He said through that application he has attributed the incident to the inefficiency and poor performance of the security agencies of the federal and the provincial government.
The petitioner contended the judiciary, lawyers and the journalists are only vocal entities against the rampant corruption and the war on terrorism and want to expose their facts to the public as such they three are special target of the forces which are indulged in corruption and are factoring terror.
The petitioner is further aggrieved with the high and tight security only for the VVIPs and VIPs who, he says, pay a little amount of tax and get facilities in millions of rupees at the state expenses and give nothing to the masses rather they are giving them gift of terrorism, price hike and poverty. On the other hand, he said judges, journalists and lawyers pay millions of rupees in taxes but they and their families are without any proper security in the face of the luxurious life provided at state expense to politicians.
The petitioner prayed to the court that it hold a judicial inquiry into the murder of the couple and honest and efficient persons be appointed to investigate and prosecute the cases.
He further prayed that security should be withdrawn on the VVIPs and VIPs and if it is needed at all, the expenses of the same should be met from the persons seeking security. He also urged the court to lay open to the public as to how much is daily spent on VVIPs and VIPs security.
