Lahore – First Women Entrepreneurship Furniture Exhibition by Furniture Pakistan (FP) was inaugurated yesterday (Friday) in Pearl Continental, Lahore by US Consul General, Lahore, Carmela Conroy. The exhibition is scheduled from January 14th to 16th, 2011 in PC.
Women from different cities of Pakistan displayed their furniture stalls. Chairman PF Yasmeen Rehman briefed the Chief Guest about Furniture Pakistan and the exhibition. While speaking on the occasion Carmela Conroy appreciated the efforts of the women entrepreneurs of Pakistani and said that she was amazed by the fascinating exhibition of their skills. “I would definitely come back to buy the furniture”, she told media. Pakistani furniture is recognized all over the world including America, she added.
Pakistan Muslim League (N), MNA Pervaiz Malik accompanied his wife to the exhibition and lauded the efforts of women entrepreneurs. Carmela Conroy visited the stalls one by one and discussed the design and manufacture of the furniture. She said that the role of women was critical in the development of any nation and the Pakistani women make their own ways to progress, despite obstacles, and they become shining examples of creativity.
People, who came to witness the art of Pakistani women, were amazed by the skilled work and said that Pakistan’s furniture and its designers are a great asset for the country and the efforts of Furniture Pakistan to promote the product were appreciable. They said that these exhibitions are the real hope for economic revival of the country and we need to use our own resources for the development of Pakistan. Chairperson Furniture Pakistan, Ms Yasmeen Rehman thanked the Chief Guest Carmela Conroy and said that this exhibition is quite encouraging for Pakistani Women, she said that FP has given the opportunity to the talented Pakistani women to recognize themselves in the mainstream economy of the country.
She also said that the major objective of FP is to alleviate poverty from the country and the promotion of furniture can help the cause. She told the audience that the basic structure of the company was formulated in 2007-08 and 2009, whereas Furniture Pakistan initiated its operations under the administration of Pakistan Industrial Developmental Corporation (PIDC), Ministry of Industries and Production. She hoped that this exhibition would be a success story of Pakistani women and furniture.
More than 20 stalls were there including Ahad home Signature, Ahangar, Atelier llone, Bobin’s Furniture, Dareechay, Eclat, Furniture & Accessories by Hena Khan, Gallery 98, Intone Interiors, Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC), Kraft Man, Mahogany Galleries and others.
The stall of Pakistan Stone Development Company remained in the center of attention because of their wonderful eye catching furniture items made by stones. Representatives of PASDEC briefed the Chief Guest and other participants about the Company and its innovative products.
According to FP officials, main goal behind the organization is to enhance the quality of Pakistani wood products, attain global competitiveness, develop strategies for the sustainable use and production of wood, establish linkages with global value chain and to develop productive workforce through better training and up gradation of skills.
