New governor will defuse tensions, says Aitzaz

LAHORE – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan expressed hope that Sardar Latif Khan Khosa’s appointment as Punjab governor will help reduce political confrontation in Punjab.
Talking to journalists after attending Justice Javed Iqbal’s parents’ Qul on Thursday, Aitzaz said Sardar Khosa was a senior lawyer and hopefully he will develop good relations between the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), reducing the existing tensions between them. Aitzaz condoled over Justice Iqbal’s parents’ murder, and suggested forming a broad-based investigation team to reach the culprits. He said different versions were being given of the incident and what actually happened will surface after investigations. He lauded the services of the slain Punjab Governor Salman Taseer and said Sardar Latif may not be his substitute but his appointment as governor will bring down tensions between PPP and PML-N.
Former Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad also expressed grief over the murder and said that every institution appeared on the downslide in the country. He was surprised that investigators had not yet traced the murderers of someone as important as a Supreme Court judge.
Former foreign minister Khursheed Mahmood Kasuri said a judicial inquiry should be conducted, as people were getting concerned about their own security as well.
