ISLAMABD – The road users in capital city, particularly in and around the Red Zone had to wait in long queues of vehicles for hours because of strict security measures taken on the arrival of the US Vice President Jeo Biden on Wednesday.
Islamabad Express Way, IJ Principal Road and Murree Road witnessed traffic bottlenecks at the arrival and departure times of Jeo Biden.
The law enforcement agencies had closed roads linking Rawalpindi and Islamabad, including Murree Road , Expressway, IJ Principal Road and Kashmir Highway , to avoid any untoward incident.
The city district administration had deployed heavy contingents of police at all important roads in the city as a security measure. Police kept searching the vehicles. The traffic jams also lead to heated arguments between the motorists and police officials.
Inayat Kaleem, a motorist, said he had been stuck up in the traffic for two hours. He said it was administration’s responsibility to ensure the vehicular movement while maintaining security.
“The authorities need to construct separate roads for VIPs movement in the city while also informing public before such visits about traffic plan”, said another perturbed motorist Iftikhar Ahmad.
