Taseer’s killing aimed at dividing nation on religion: Malik

LAHORE – Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the murder of Salmaan Taseer, like terrorism, is a conspiracy to divide the nation on religious basis. He was speaking at the curtain-raiser for “Faseel-e-Jaan Se Aagay,” (Beyond the Life’s Limit” a drama series jointly produced by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) and Communication Research Strategies Private Limited (CRS) here on Wednesday.
The drama series is reportedly based on the 11 true stories of courageous Pakistanis who gave tough resistance to the terrorists. ISPR Director General Major General Ather Abbas, senior analyst Shafqat Mehmood, PTV Managing Director Yousaf Baig Mirza, CRS Executive Producer Khawaja Azhar also spoke on the occasion. Eminent personalities- TV actors and journalists were also present on the occasion including Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami.
Rehman Malik said the media had a greater role to play in order to inject true ideology upheld by Pakistanis. He urged the media not to ‘glorify’ the terrorists. He said the terrorist organizations like Taliban should be rather called ‘Zamilan’ (the oppressive). He also paid rich tributes to the families of those killed by the terrorists. ISPR DG Major General Ather Abbas said the major aim to produce such series was to show public what was ‘hidden from their eyes’.
The PTV Home will telecast the drama on every Friday at 7:40 pm from January 14, 2011.
