ISLAMABAD – The tragic incident of murder of the parents of senior most judge in the Supreme Court Justice Javed Iqbal could not be ruled out as a kind of message to the judiciary not to take up important cases like that of missing persons, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jehangir said on Wednesday.
Such type of messages, if given to the judiciary, would not be tolerated, she said adding that as per rights guaranteed in the constitution, the state was bound to provide adequate security to every individual of the country.
She demanded the government conduct an accurate high-level investigation into the murder of Justice Javed Iqbal’s parents. She said the lawyers would look into all the parameters of the process of investigation as she added that certain important things were not being taken into account during the investigation.
Answering a question, she said that judges of the apex court and other officials must be provided with adequate security but balance should be maintained in this regard.
She expressed grief over the killing of Justice Javed Iqbal’s parents and said that they did not give strike call to the legal fraternity as they felt that litigants should not be suffered.
She said that after the incident, they had consulted with the judges of the apex court and resolved that instead of announcing strike, the lawyers would observe a day of mourning against the murder of Justice Javed Iqbal’s parents.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Vice Chairman Muhammad Kazim Khan demanded government arrest the culprits and award them severe punishment as per law.
