ISLAMABAD – The managements of loss-making public sector enterprises (PSEs) on Wednesday failed to provide relevant data to the federal cabinet meeting and sought a deferment of the matter until the next meeting.
A reliable source informed Pakistan Today that the cabinet meeting was told that officials of the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) and Pakistan Railways (PR) failed to submit their restructuring plans, so the matter could not be taken up during the meeting.
However, the matter was overlooked as the prime minister had to meet visiting US Vice President Joe Biden.
“The briefing on the matters of PSEs was deferred, as the relevant ministries and departments had requested for a deferment due to the unavailability of relevant data. It was requested that the required information would be furnished within a week so a special cabinet meeting could be held next week to take up the matter,” the source added.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance assembled top officials of the three PSEs to evolve restructuring plans.
