KARACHI – The future of 7,187 contractual teachers remains in the balance despite Sindh Education and Literacy Minister Pir Mazharul Haq announcing in the Sindh Assembly session on Tuesday that no individual will be dismissed from service.
Responding to a point of order raised by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s (PML-F) Nusrat Saher Abbasi, Haq assured all members his department was reviewing the cases of these employees. He claimed that the tack record of the PPP government was that it had given jobs to people, rather than giving them their marching orders. However, he said, the Sindh government did not want to make any false promises “as was the practice in the previous government.”
Leader of the Opposition Jam Madad Ali later told Pakistan Today that he had received reports from various sources that the Education Department has already filled 3,000 vacancies of the 7,187.
“Pir Sahab Pagaro had sent me to President Asif Ali Zardari with a message; he had asked the president not to render these people jobless. But it now seems as if the PPP government did not consider President Zardari’s orders to regularise the services of these contractual teachers,” Ali said. –
