KARACHI – Engro Corporation Limited held a grand ceremony to celebrate and recognise the accomplishments of eminent Pakistanis chosen as the winners of the first Engro Excellence Awards 2010. The winners of the first edition are Abdul Sattar Edhi for Social and Humanitarian Services, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman for Physical and Applied Sciences and Mushtaq Ahmad Yousufi for Literature.Asad Umar, President and Chief Executive, Engro Corp highlighted,
“Pakistan has a reservoir of talent, which given the right opportunity and encouragement can achieve the same results as the best in the world.” The jury comprised of esteemed personalities, each of whom is considered a symbol of excellence and beacon of hope in their relevant fields. Dr Ishrat Hussain, Chairman of the jury, was assisted by Dr Iqbal Chaudhary, Dr Nafis Sadik, Prof Anita Ghulam Ali and Mr Iftikhar Arif. The recipients were selected based on lifetime accomplishments and excellence in their respective fields and were presented an Engro Excellence Medallion as well as a cash prize of Rs5 million each. Dr Ishrat Hussain, Chairman of the Jury said, “I hope that these awards will inspire many younger Pakistanis to dedicate themselves to hard work. Only those nations who recognize and reward their meritorious citizens can succeed, make headway and prosper.”
The Engro Excellence Awards are devised to redefine the standards for excellence for honouring Pakistan’s finest talent.
