ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) cast doubts on the eligibility of 298 parliamentarians as they have failed to submit their educational documents with the Higher Education commission (HEC) for verification despite being asked several times since July last year.”Get the required documents from these legislators,” the HEC asked the ECP in a letter on Tuesday.Talking to Pakistan Today, ECP focal person Afzal Khan confirmed that the commission had received a letter from the HEC asking it to play its role in getting the educational documents of those lawmakers. He said there were chances most of these 298 degrees would be fake.”It doesn’t mean all these lawmakers are fake degree-holders.
” Khan said but hastened to add that repeated reminders about the provision of documents and their inability to do so made them doubtful. Among those who have not submitted their degrees to the HEC include Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Babar Awan, Shahbaz Bhatti, Rana Farooq, Manzoor Wattoo, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi.
