ISLAMABAD – The cash strapped Capital Development Authority (CDA) is all set to start construction work for Kashmir Highway while the civic body has stopped its many ongoing projects owing to the paucity of funds.
The CDA had decided to start construction work on the Kashmir Highway in March that would cost Rs 2.60 billion while around Rs 2 billion was required to complete those projects over which the CDA had stopped or slowed down the work due to the scarcity of funds, an official source said.
The CDA had left one project incomplete while the beginning of another project was only to appease the government, the source said adding that due to CDA’s this policy, financial crises would further deepen and authority would face huge lose in future.
It said that CDA’s stopped projects included development of sector D-12 and sector I-15, construction of culture complex, development of Fatima Jinnah Park, up gradation of Marghazar Zoo and the construction work of Zero Point Interchange.
It added that the CDA opened sector D-12 in 1988 and started its development work in 2003 but the CDA still had not completed the development work due to the lack of funds.
The CDA also launched sector I-15 in 2006 to meet the residential needs of low-income group in the capital but it did not start its development work still, it further said.
It added that the CDA started Shakarparian Culture Complex’s construction work worth Rs 1.3 billion in December 2007 and planned to complete it in June 2010 but they could not complete it.
The CDA started the development of F-9 Fatima Jinahh Park in 2008 but it was also yet to be completed, it said adding that the CDA started the up gradation of Marghaz Zoo in year 2008 and planned to complete it in 2011 but CDA also stopped working over it.
