LAHORE – A delegation of young doctors met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif at CM House on Monday and apprised him of the genuine demands of the young doctors, including the demands of a special pay package and pay protection for doctors.
The meeting was attended by Punjab Health Secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad, Parliamentary Secretary for Health Dr Saeed Elahi and MPA Dr Asad Ashraf while the delegation of young doctors consisted of Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Aslam Rao, Dr Khuda Bakhsh, Dr Usra Sadaqat and other doctors. Young doctors appealed to the Chief Minister to raise the salary of a Medical Officer/ PG trainee to Rs 70,000, House Officer to Rs 30,000, Senior Registrar to Rs 1,50,000 and also announce a special pay package for other doctors.
Doctors further said that as the government has given a special pay package to the judiciary, they need to announce a special pay package for doctors as well to stop the brain drain.
The CM assured the young doctors that the Punjab government would announce a special salary package for the doctors in a few weeks time as the young doctors are a valuable asset of the country and they would be given a pay raise, he constituted an eight-member committee consisting of the chief secretary, the Health Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad, Dr Saeed Ellahi, Dr Asad Ashraf and five member of the young doctors.
This committee would finalize pay package of doctors in next few weeks and the CM would announce the decision in the next meeting with the young doctors. The chief minister urged the young doctors to serve the public and also accepted their other demands of pay protection and security of the hospitals. Young doctors thanked the CM, the health secretary, Dr Saeed Elahi and Dr Asad Ashraf for supporting their genuine demands.
