Following the incident in which Punjabs Governor Mr Salmaan Taseer was assassinated, a number of key politicians of Pakistan have started relying on their personal guards instead of the security provided to them by the state.
This is not at all an encouraging trend because after all state is responsible for the security of millions of people living in it including the politicians. It is true that insiders are always hard to identify and are the most dangerous.
There is a need to scrutinise each and every security official who is included in the security squads of VVIPs. One of the police officials also identified the killer of Salmaan Taseer and a few others prior to this incident and advised his colleagues of not including them in the VVIP security without scrutiny. However, the coming days will certainly unveil the reasons and real the motivation of the killer in committing such an offence.
A joint investigations team is probing to find a missing link between Mumtaz Qadri and sectarian outfits.
According to several reports by police he was the only person who was inducted into the Elite Force without his file being reviewed. The investigations team is also questioning two other suspects who have been arrested in this connection. It is also the duty of the team to pinpoint the elements in police and other law enforcement agencies that might have helped Qadri in getting into the squad that was responsible for the Governors security. The investigation wont prove fruitful unless it is unbiased and without favours to the persons in uniforms.
