PML-F MPA, bureaucracy get ministers’ goat

KARACHI – It was either a female legislator from the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) or the bureaucracy who managed to rile Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ministers during the Sindh Assembly session on Monday.
Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro was visibly aggravated when PML-F’s Nusrat Saher Abbasi criticized the government on what she claimed was negligence in monitoring the process of rehabilitation of flood affected people in some parts of the province. Referring to media reports, she said that many flood affected families are still living in relief camps without proper care. She said that three to four children have died due to cold in different camps.
In Khairpur – the hometown of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah – relief goods collected were not distributed among the flood victims, and subsequently, much of it rotted away. This was then disposed of in a water channel, she claimed.
“Government personalities are only interested in saving their offices, and they are not interested in the common people’s plight,” she said.
Law Minister Soomro took particular exception to these comments, and said the PPP has never strived to save its government “unlike other parties who had remained part of every government.”
He also advised the PML-F lawmaker not to believe on each and every report of newspapers as some the news are produced “at specific timings”.
