KARACHI – Dr Ziauddin Hospital of Karachi and the Global Hospitals of India have agreed to join hands for heart and liver transplants and other services and they would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for this purpose soon.
“Global Hospitals India has reached this agreement with Dr Ziauddin Hospital to provide state-of-the-art medical facilities to the people of Pakistan,” Khalid Rasheed, group vice president of International Business, Global Hospitals, India, told Pakistan Today.
“A group of doctors from Global Hospitals would conduct OPDs, carry out liver and heart transplants and complicated surgeries and offer consultancy and tele-medicine services at Dr Ziauddin Hospital under the agreement,” he added.
Rasheed said that pact also covers a Continued Medical Education (CME) programme and Pakistani doctors would also be provided training. “Patients usually go to Singapore for liver and other organ transplants, but now we would reduce their cost by providing them with facilities in Karachi,” he said, adding that India’s rating is much better than Singapore in this regard.
“We are working on our programme for Pakistan and it should complete without any delay,” Rasheed said. He said if a Pakistani patient would have to travel to India, Global Hospitals India would issue an invitation letter. The Indian High Commission would issue a visa on the same day and the process would take only three to four days.
“Global Hospitals Group is one of the leading health care providers in India today with a network of nine hospitals and over 2,000 beds,” he said, adding that the group has carved out a niche for itself in India’s healthcare industry by excelling in areas ranging from diagnosis to multi-organ transplantation, from simple procedures to complex surgeries.
He said that the group’s hospitals have earned a distinct reputation for their unmatched quality and services in the areas of gastreonterology and laparoscopic surgery, cardiology and cardio thoracic surgery (including heart transplant), hepatology (including liver transplant), urology (including kidney transplantation), nephrology (including dialysis), medical and surgical oncology, general medicine and critical care, neurology and neuro surgery and orthopedics (including joint replacement and spine surgery).
