Brendon McCullum became the fifth New Zealand batsman and 116th batsman overall to hit 400 or more fours in Test cricket. The right hand batsman reached this milestone by hitting fifth four off Younis Khan during his 56-run knock on the opening day of the first Test match against Pakistan at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Friday (January 7).
It was 94th innings of his 56th Test matches. The hard hitting batsman hit 213 fours and 22 sixes in 48 innings of 30 Test matches at home while he smashed 189 fours and 33 sixes in 46 innings of 26 Test matches outside New Zealand. Stephen Fleming (917 fours in 189 innings of 111 Test matches), Martin Crowe (659 fours in 131 innings of 77 Test matches), John Wright (630 fours in 148 innings of 82 Test matches), Nathan Astle (612 fours in 137 innings of 81 Test matches) and Daniel Vettori (499 fours in 158 innings of 104 Test matches) are the other New Zealand batsmen to hit 400 or more fours before Brendon McCullum. ** Daniel Vettori received his second duck in 12 innings of seven Test matches against Pakistan. It was his 18th duck in 158 innings of 104 Test matches. Vettori failed to open his account for the second time in 53 innings of 31 Test matches while leading the side.
