QUETTA – The Balochistan High Court on Friday stayed the leasing out of hundreds of acres of land in Lasbela district to members of Dubai’s royal family for hunting purpose and issued pre-admission notices to both the federal and provincial governments.
The stay order from the court was obtained by no other than the Balochistan Assembly Speaker Muhammad Aslam Bhootani.
The court restrained both the federal and provincial governments from taking further action regarding the allotment of 500 acres in Bhootani’s constituency until the next hearing in the first week of February.
Bhootani had submitted that 500 acres of land in Liyari area of Lasbela were being leased to rulers of Dubai for hunting.
He said as the property belonged to locals, all steps were likely to be taken without consulting the concerned land owners and the act of the provincial government might amount to a violation of the constitution.
Later, Balochistan called the stay order a victory for poor land owners, saying he would not let the federal and provincial governments usurp the rights of the people of his constituency.
