LAHORE – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warriach has expressed concern over the investigation being carried out into the assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer.
He was talking to reporters at Taseer’s Qul at the Governor’s House on Thursday.
Warraich said he was not satisfied with the investigations, as the Punjab government was responsible for his security, which was overlooked.
He said Taseer’s assassination was politically motivated, but it was being given some other dimension, adding the murder was a conspiracy against Pakistan.
The PPP leader said the assassination had given a message to democratic forces that they should back only a peculiar approach, leaving aside the constitution and law.
Warraich also questioned how Malik Mumtaz Qadri was put on the security squad after having been declared a security threat.
He said Taseer’s killing was part of a wider plot.
“The martyrdom of Salmaan Taseer is a conspiracy against Pakistan and Pakistani institutions. The people behind this assassination should be exposed immediately, as there was a serious security lapse in the incident,” he said.
