Investigations into 33 terror attacks going round in circles

LAHORE – The Punjab police are dragging their feet into investigations into 33 bomb blasts and suicide attacks that occurred in various cities over the last two years while 12 such incidents have been left untraced.
From January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2010, the Punjab Police registered 61 cases of bomb blasts and suicide attacks.
These include attacks on Sri Lankan Cricket Team, GHQ (Rawalpindi), Parade Lane Masjid (Rawalpindi), Data Darbar (Lahore) and two suicide attacks near Karbla Gamey Shah (Lahore).
Out of 61 incidents 33 took place in Lahore and seven in Rawalpindi. The police sealed the FIR of attacks on GHQ and Parade Lane Masjid (Rawalpindi). In 61 blasts and suicide attacks 516 people were killed and 1,648 injured. The police arrested 23 accused, but submitted only 10 challans in the courts which convicted five and acquitted one while the police declared five accused proclaimed offenders.
The detail of the cases of 2009 is as follows: On February 5 a bomb blasted in a procession of Shia sect in DG Khan in which 32 people were killed and 50 injured. On February 4 terrorists attacked a police check post in Mianwali, claiming eight lives. On February 11 terrorists attacked Kundian police check post. On March 3 terrorists attacked Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, killing six and injuring eight. On March 16 a bomb exploded in Peer Wadhai Bus Stand (Rawalpindi), killing 14 and injuring 21 people. On March 30 Police Training Centre Manawan (Lahore) was attacked as a result of which seven people were killed and 97 injured. On April 5 a suicide bomber attacked Imambargah Sarpak (Chakwal) as a result of which 25 people were killed and four injured. On May 27 terrorists attacked Rescue-15 Building (Lahore), killing 26 people and injuring 137. On June 12 terrorists attacked Jamia Naeemia Ghari Shahu (Lahore), killing Dr Sarfraz Naeemi among two and injuring 6. On July 13 a blast in Mian Channu left 13 dead and 65 injured. On August 21an explosion occurred on the fleet of a police party in Westridge (Rawalpindi), injuring seven.
On October 10 terrorists attacked GHQ (Rawalpindi), claiming nine lives. On October 15 terrorists attacked FIA Office (Lahore), claiming six lives. The same day terrorists attacked Police Training Centre Manawan (Lahore) killing 11 people and injuring 34. On October 15 terrorists attacked Elite Training Centre Badian (Lahore), killing 2 people. On October 23 a suicide bomber attacked Aeronatic Complex Kamra (Attock), killing eight and injuring 17. On November 2 a suicide attack on National Bank Cantt Branch (Rawalpindi) left 40 dead and 85 injured. Three terrorists were killed on the spot and the case is under investigation. On the same day in a suicide attack on Babu Sabu Interchange (Lahore) killed one person. On December 2 a suicide attack on Choor Chowk (Rawalpindi) left 26 injured while one terrorist was killed on the spot. The case is under investigation. On December 4, a suicide attack on Parade Lane Masjid (Rawalpindi) claimed 38 dead and 75 injured. Four terrorists were killed on the spot.
The police sealed the FIR.
On December 7, two suicide explosions took place in Moon Market Allama Iqbal Town (Lahore), leaving 45 dead and 145 injured. Two terrorists were killed on the spot. The case is under investigation. On December 8, a suicide attack took place at Police Check Post Qasim Bela near ISI Office Cantt in Multan, claiming 10 dead and 45 injured.
The case is under investigation. On Dec 15, a blast on Khosa Market (DG Khan) left 25 dead and 92 injured. Two terrorists were killed at the spot and the case is under trial. During 2010, 31 incidents of bomb blasts and suicide attacks occurred; on January 3, on Ghousia Property Shop (Rawalpindi), on January 28, in Jahan CD Market ( Attock), on March 4 in Muzaffargarh, on March 8 on CIA office in 45-K Model Town (Lahore), on March 12 in RA Bazaar (Lahore), on May, a cracker attack injured three at Rafi Peer Cultural Complex Riawind Road (Lahore), on May 21, a cracker injured four in Uccha Cheet Ram Road, Tibbi City (Lahore), on May 26, a lawyer was killed in the sessions court (Lahore) in a hand grenade attack and firing, on May 28, Ahmadia Bait-uz-Zikr Gharri Sahu (Lahore) was attacked, leaving 49 dead and 11 injured, on May 28,
Ahmadia Bait-uz-Zikr Model Town (Lahore) was attacked and 26 were killed and 28 injured, on June 1, Jinnah Hospital (Lahore) was attacked and three people were killed. On June 12, a bomb blasted beside the boundary wall of Shezan Factory (Lahore), injuring two people. On June 26 crackers were hurled on Zaitoon Plaza Hall Road (Lahore), injuring five people. The case is under investigation. On July 1, an attack on Data Darbar Lahore left 45 dead and 150 injured. The case is under investigation.
On September 1, 11 people were killed in an attack on Shia processions near Karbla Ghame Shah and Bhati Gate Lahore. The case is under investigation. Former Anti-Terrorism Court judge AG Tariq Chaudhry told Pakistan Today that the benefit of the doubt always favours the accused. A court cannot convict the accused on the desire of police. Investigation must prepare
the case properly.
