ISLAMABAD – Textile group export registered an increase of 26.88 percent during the period from July to November 2010 compared to the same time last year. According to data available with Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the export of raw cotton increased by 15.43 percent and about 49,688 metric tonnes of raw cotton was exported worth $121.433 million.
Meanwhile, the export of cotton yarn also grew by 17.80 percent as about 220,906 metric tonnes of yarn valued at $720.171 million during the first five months of FY11.The export of cotton yarn was recorded at 298,178 metric tonnes and earned $611.359 million during the period, data revealed. Besides the export of cotton yarn, the export of cotton cloth from the country also rose by 27.87 percent during the period under review compared to the same period, last year. About 749,649 thousand metric tonnes were exported during the aforementioned period which added $901.073 million compared to 704,219 thousand metric tonnes shipped away and contributing $704.671 million relative to the same period last year. However, on a negative note, the export of cotton, carded and combed varieties, declined by 92.01 percent with about 566 metric tons costing $656,000 being exported compared to the strong total of 9,785 metric tonnes worth $8.212 million in the first five months of the period. The export of yarn other then cotton yarn increased by 15.43 percent. Knitwear, bedwear and towels also registered strong growth of 20.67 percent, 14.22 percent and 7.32 percent, respectively.
