LAHORE – Salman Taseer was responsible for what happened to him because he tried to obstruct the functioning of the blasphemy law, Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Syed Munawar Hasan said on Wednesday.
Taseer occupied a high government and yet he violated the blasphemy law by extending support to a woman convicted of blasphemy, he said, adding that he was going to seek the president’s clemency for her while the decision was still pending with the courts.
Taseer had ignored the sentiments of 170 million Pakistanis by terming the law ‘black’ and had ridiculed the clerics and Tahafuz e Namoos e Risilat Mahaz had demanded of the government to take notice but no attention had been paid to their demands, he said, adding that the rulers serving the west need to review their own conduct.
