BRISBANE – Second seeded American Andy Roddick steamrolled his way into the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International when he overpowered Ukraine’s Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets on Wednesday.
Roddick recovered from an early break to clinch a close first set before running away with the second to win 6-4, 6-1.
Roddick used his booming serve to brilliant effect but he was also able to match his opponent in the rallies, often pinning Dolgopolov deep in the court and forcing a host of errors, particularly towards the end of the first set and throughout the second.
Bartoli stamps authority: Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli stamped her authority on the Brisbane International tennis tournament when she downed Iveta Benesova on Wednesday to move into the quarter-finals. Bartoli, at No.4 the highest remaining women’s seed, came back from losing the second set to Benesova to run out a comfortable 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 winner.
