UMT organising two-day business management conference

LAHORE – A two-day international conference on business management titled, “Global Financial Crisis: Issues and Management” organised by the University of Management and Technology (UMT) will begin at the Pearl Continental Hotel today (Wednesday).
The Punjab CM would attend the function as chief guest in the inaugural session while delegates from 10 countries including the US, China, UK, New Zealand, Oman, Germany, India, Bahrain, Qatar and Iran would also participate in the conference besides national representative of business and educational institutions.
Around 29 research papers would be presented during seven sessions of the conference while presentations would be made by managers of multinational companies, national corporate sector, academicians, financial experts and researchers.
In seven sessions, participants would present their academic work on the following topics including knowledge management and human capital development, business leadership in current times, reconstruction challenges in business and government collaboration, entrepreneurship and SMEs, business academia linkage, poverty alleviation, Pak-US relations in the emerging scenario, legal environment for business in Pakistan, challenges of energy and agricultural business.
The conference’s theme is “Business, Academia and Government Partnership for a Better Future”. Financial crisis that hit the global economy recently has brought business management practices into focus in a number of ways ranging from corporate governance issues to improving productivity and securing organisations against shocks that start from one corner of the globe and rapidly reach all sectors by stimulating the domino effect. The conference aims to capture knowledge, both theoretical and empirical, which would assist in preparing organisations to manage businesses under all environmental conditions.
The conference’s outcome would include pre-conference proceedings and the journal of management research. Two research papers would be declared for the Best Paper Award. Selected papers would be considered for publication in the Journal of Management and Research.
The conference’s seven tracks included general management, operations management, information system, human resource management, economics, finance and marketing. The conference is being organised in collaboration with three other academic institutions associations of Pakistan including the Institute of Administrative Sciences, University of the Punjab, Institute of Business Administration, Sukkur and the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia. Former State Bank governor Dr Ishrat Hussain and Senator Ghulam Ali would also address the conference’s closing session.
