Taseer was denied funds for bullet-proof vehicle

LAHORE – Late Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer had demanded a bullet proof vehicle from the Punjab government, but the summary was rejected by the Punjab chief minister over financial constraints, Pakistan Today has learnt. Taseer had sent a summary to the provincial government to release Rs 25 million for purchasing a Mercedes Benz.
The summary was sent to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on November 9, last year. However, the government rejected the requisition owing to the financial problems the province was facing. The spokesman of the Governor’s House had also said that the demand had been sent because the vehicle in use was not in a good condition. The governor was also said to have been receiving life threats over issuing statements regarding the blasphemy law. Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz pointed out the government’s failure to provide security to the governor and CM’s decision of not releasing funds for getting a new vehicle for him.
