LAHORE – Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer was laid to rest at the Cavalry Ground graveyard with full state honour o Wednesday. A 25-member of the Punjab Police contingent presented salute to the martyred leader as his body was lowered into his last resting place.
Family members, close friends, admirers, federal and provincial ministers, a number of PPP office bearers, high ranking officials of the provincial government were present during the burial. Moving scenes were witnessed at the graveyard where PPP workers cried bitterly and mourned the loss of a loving leader.
Floral wreaths were laid at the grave of the late Taseer by PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badr, federal ministers, armed forces representatives, family and government officials. Earlier, the body of the late Taseer reached the graveyard by a military helicopter.
Scores of the Rangers and the Punjab Police security personnel were deployed in and around the graveyard to ensure stringent security.
