LAHORE – Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer’s interference in the Aasia Bibi affair and his efforts to get the blasphemy laws repealed are the main reason for his murder, a press release issued by the Tahfuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat Mahaz (TNRM) stated on Tuesday after an emergency meeting following after the assassination of the Punjab governor.
“We had warned the governor to stay away from such acts but he did not listen to us and now we are asking the government to stay away from bringing changes in the Namoos-e-Risalat law,” the press release said.
The TNRM leaders also held the government responsible for Taseer’s assassination and demanded it abolish the committee headed by the minister for minorities to amend the blasphemy law and take back Sherry Rehman’s bill from the National Assembly.
