LAHORE – Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Tuesday issued notices to the Oil and and Gas Regularity Authority (OGRA) chairman and the federal government on a petition challenging nine percent increase in petroleum products prices from January 1, 2011.
The court also summoned a report from OGRA chairman and the federal government within one week seeking an explanation for increasing fuel prices, which would increase prices of other products as well. The judge was hearing a petition filed by Hanif Goraya through his counsel Mateenul Haq seeking a withdrawal in the notification of increasing petroleum prices.
Earlier, the judge heard arguments of the petitioner’s counsel and admitted the petition for a regular hearing. The petitioner requested for an interim stay against implementation of the notification and its ultimate withdrawal under court directions. The counsel submitted that the recent increase in petroleum prices would add to the miseries of the common man.
