Lahore – The civil miscellaneous (CM) application challenging recent increase of nine percent in the petroleum products was filed again in the Lahore High Court after removing objections raised on it by LHC office on Monday. Petitioner Hameed Goraya through his counsel Muteen-ul-Haq Chaudhry had filed the CM petition on Saturday. However, the LHC office had returned the application to the petitioner due to technical objections.
Therefore, the petitioner removed the objections and filed it again on Monday. The CM petition will be heard along with a main petition of the petitioner already pending before the court against increase in gas prices. The petitioner said the hike in petroleum prices will increase the prices items of daily use and adversely effect on the poor.
The petitioner in his application contended that the Oil & Gas Regularity Authority (OGRA) increase of the prices of petroleum products by nine percent through a notification from January 1 which cripple the people’s purchasing ability.
He contended that the notification issued by OGRA was unlawful since it was not approved by the parliament and against rights of the people. He requested the court to stay the increase in prices of petroleum items and direct the respondents to withdraw the notification.
